The Effect of Benztrbpine Mesylate on Prolactin Response to Perphenaztne in Normal, Young Men

Abstract
This experiment was performed to study the effect of benztropine mesylate on the prolactin response induced by antipsychotic perphenazine in normal young male volunteers. With administration of normal saline, perphenazine alone and perphenazine with benztropine mesylate, plasma prolactin level was measured at the interval of 15, 30, 45, 60, 90, l20 minutes after administration with the method of RIA, and compared with the baseline level and each other.
Following results were-revealed
1. The mean baseline plasma prolactin level was measured as 11. 2¡¾33ng/ml in normal young male volunteers.
2. Administration of perphenazine induced a little higher increase of prolactin in 9 subjects, while there was no significant difference of prolactin increase between the two groups in the rest.
3. Mean prolactin increase at the time interval showed peak at 60 minutes after administration in both groups.
4. The difference of mean prolactin increase between the two groups was not significant.
